CUTOUT FEST BRAND-NEW COMMUNITY

FAQ

WHAT IS CUTOUT FEST? >>

From 2009 to 2021, CutOut Fest was the first international animation festival held in Mexico, specifically in the city of Queretaro. After a decade of promoting and amplifying the artwork of digital artists around the world, COF evolves into a virtual gallery, a marketplace for the community of digital creators where artists will be able to tokenize and sell their artwork in the form of NFTs within the Ethereum blockchain, and under its native currency, Ether (ETH). Artists will also be able to receive royalties from sales made in the secondary market.

The CutOut Fest metaverse is our first platform to continue building all kinds of spaces to weave connections, experiment, learn, collect digital art, get inspired, and inspire others through new ways of exhibition and collaboration.

We have many more experiments in mind and you’ll be the first to know!
Welcome to the Age of Decentralized Digital Art!

WHAT IS A BLOCKCHAIN?>>

Some people think that blockchain technology might be one of the most amazing innovations of the century. Others think it is a scam, but undoubtedly, blockchain is already present in our lives, powering all kinds of cryptocurrencies and transforming sectors as diverse as the economy, medicine and art.

A blockchain is simply a distributed database that is shared among the nodes of a computer network. As a database, a blockchain stores information electronically in digital format, maintaining a secure and decentralized record of transactions. The innovation with a blockchain is that it guarantees the fidelity and

security of a record of data and generates trust without the need for a trusted third party. A blockchain collects information together in groups, known as “blocks” that hold sets of information. Blocks have certain storage capacities and, when filled, are closed and linked to the previously filled block, forming a chain of data known as the “blockchain.” All new information that follows that freshly added block is compiled into a newly formed block that will then also be added to the chain once filled.

WHAT DOES NFT MEAN?>>

NFTs (“non-fungible tokens”) are tokens with a unique ID that represent a certificate of ownership hosted in a transaction on some blockchain, which is considered a unique good or asset in the digital art world. They can be sold at auctions for collectors to bid or buy.

In order to convert a digital work into an NFT, it is necessary to mint it. By minting the artwork, the digital art piece acquires representativeness on the Ethereum blockchain, a publicly accessible interplanetary machine that hosts a ledger, public as well, that cannot be changed or manipulated. Similar to the way metal coins are minted and brought into circulation, NFTs are also tokens that are “minted” once they are created. The digital virtual gallery artwork is represented as an NFT so that it can then be purchased and traded in the marketplace and digitally tracked as it is resold in the future.

HOW DOES THE PLATFORM WORK?>>

In order to collect digital art, you will need to have an Ether wallet because it is through the wallets that you access your funds and Ethereum applications. Once you have your wallet set up, you can access the platform and start collecting digital art.
If you don’t have a wallet yet, you will be able to browse the platform and be part of the exhibitions and programmed events, but you won’t be able to collect or sell digital artworks.

At CutOut Fest, due to the implementation of the RC721 standard, creators of NFTs can interact and trade their artwork on dierent blockchains, as long as those work under the same standard.

NFTs minted on CutOut Fest are stored on the IPFS (Interplanetary File System), a P2P storage protocol that works similarly to the blockchain, distributing information along with nodes around the world. This makes such information (like your NFT) last over time without depending on the existence of any other platforms.

HOW DO I SET UP A WALLET?>>

Setting up a wallet is easy and free. If you are new to blockchain or if this is your first approach to blockchain, we recommend using wallets like MetaMask or MyEtherWallet.

For more information on how MetaMask works click here.
For more information on wallets set up: Ethereum/Wallets.

HOW DO I CONNECT MY WALLET TO CUTOUT FEST?>>

Go to cutoutfest.com and click on “Connect Wallet”.
Your CutOut Fest profile will be activated once you have connected your wallet, and from there you will be able to add your personal info, image, and links to your social media accounts.

HOW CAN I HAVE MY ARTWORK LISTED ON THE PLATFORM?>>

In this first stage, for scalability reasons, artists need to be invited in order to sell their creations. However, if you want to send us your artwork, please use this contact form. We are working on the development of protocols and tools that will allow us to host a larger number of artists, but for now, the drops and exhibitions we organize are limited.
